Crabby day caps the summer
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP – On a day with lots of sun and a slight breeze, the Montanez family and friends headed out for some late-summer crabbing. Thursday, Aug. 27 was the perfect day to get away from the hustle and bustle of the world and wait for a bite on the Flat Creek off of Warf Road.
“You got to use chicken,” said Robert Montanez of Egg Harbor Township who had chicken legs in the cages for the blue crabs to nibble on.
“This is the first time we slowed down enough to come out; It’s been a busy summer,” said Jackie Montanez. “It takes a lot of patience.”
Within a half an hour they and their children Stephen, 11, and Hailey, 9, and their friends Adriana Nielsen, 7, and Brianna DeBary, 10, had caught a keeper the kids named “Mr. Crabs.” And within a few minutes they had another to add to the bucket, which the children named “Larry Jr.”
