Cologne firefighters turn chicken at annual barbecue (BONUS PICTURES)
Usually firefighters are called to put a fire out.
On Saturday, June 2, Cologne Volunteer Firefighters were called to start fires in the barbecue pits behind the firehouse on Cologne Avenue in Hamilton Township for the fire company’s annual chicken barbecue.
Firefighters, the women’s auxiliary and volunteers again organized a successful fund-raising event.
More than 1,000 chickens were prepared for eat-in and take out, firefighters said.
In addition to the food – chicken, steamers, potato salad, baked beans and a variety of baked goods – there was entertainment for all ages. WAYV radio provided music outdoors. And, for children, there was playground equipment, an inflated “bouncy” ride and a dunking booth. A horseshoe pit was also set up for the festivities.
The barbecue has been a tradition for more than a decade.
