EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP -- You couldn’t help but notice that the sun, clouds, and even the breeze seemed to be celebrating Earth Day, too.
At the Delilah Road site of the Atlantic County Utility Authority in Egg Harbor Township, a great turnout of locals enjoyed the festivities – and good weather -- on Sunday, April 22.
“It’s a tomato plant I got at the Geo Building,” said Pak Chau, an 11-year-old from Egg Harbor Township who was waiting in line to get on a bus for the tour of the wind farm. “I’m going to plant it.”
Chau, like many of the attendees, was caught up in the green theme of the day.
In addition to the appearance of recycling mascot Supercan, there were reminders of what the day was all about, such as the Earthcapades performance and Franklin Institute energy show.
For even for the smallest residents, who came out in wagons and strollers, fun outdoor activities brought smiles and challenges. Horse or pony rides were offered as well as Eco Hayrides and amusement games. Big Black Bart, a tortoise, and his shelled friends made appearances with their handlers, a pair of environmental educators.
Merchants and food vendors were also part of the day. With temperatures topping 70 degrees, the folks peddling ice cream and drinks did an especially brisk business.
ACUA employees helped organize and coordinate the celebration, which received support from more than 40 businesses.
